The Director-General of Kogi state infrastructural and Utility Management Compliance agency (KIUMCA), Alhaji Taufiq Isa, has clarified that the shutdown of MTN’s operations in Kogi State was done in accordance with the law.

Speaking to Assembly Correspondents in Lokoja on Tuesday shortly after defending the agency 2025 budget, Alhaji Isa, noted that, the shutting down of one of the telecommunications network, (MTN) in Kogi State was done in accordance to the law.

Isa explained that MTN had outstanding debts, and as the newly appointed head of KIUMCA, he ensured that the agency operated within the bounds of the law.

He emphasised that MTN was not discriminated against, despite being a South African company.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time MTN has faced issues in Kogi State. In 2019, the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), shut down MTN facilities over alleged tax default claims.
