From Taiye Joseph Ilorin

Residents of Etan Town, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, were thrown into panic when a fire broke out at a shop in Ile-Lodo Compound, Ikun Road, during the early hours of Wednesday.

The Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed that its team responded swiftly to a distress call at 4:13 a.m., successfully containing the fire before it could spread to a nearby 13-room residential building.

“Firefighters arrived promptly with a fire truck and successfully battled the inferno before it could cause more destruction.

“Preliminary investigations suggest a power surge as the likely cause of the fire,” said Hassan Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity for the state fire service.

Expressing sympathy for the affected shop owner, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, emphasised the importance of fire safety measures.

“We advise everyone to be cautious and ensure proper handling of electrical appliances to prevent such tragedies,” he stated.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of electrical faults, with authorities urging residents to take extra precautions to prevent future occurrences.
