From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Kwara State, Alhaji Mohammed Alhassan, has urged political stakeholders in Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency, to support Moro Local Government Area to produce the next member of the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.

Alhassan, who is a leading grassroots mobiliser in the party, made the call while addressing journalists in Ilorin on behalf of the Edu APC Grassroots Mobilisation Movement.

He said the demand was anchored on fairness, justice and the need to sustain political balance within the constituency.

According to him, since the return to democratic rule in 1999, the House of Representatives seat has been shared only between Edu and Patigi local government areas, leaving Moro without federal legislative representation for almost 30 years.

“As we approach 2027, one reality remains unmistakable: Moro Local Government Area has not been given the opportunity to serve at the federal level,” Alhassan said.

“For the sake of fairness, unity, peace and collective progress, it is only right that Moro be supported to produce the next member of the House of Representatives.”

He stressed that the call was not borne out of hostility or sectional interest but guided by conscience and shared democratic values, adding that both Islam and Christianity preach justice, equity and the pursuit of the common good.

Alhassan also linked the call to the broader political arrangement in the constituency, noting that Patigi Local Government Area, is expected to produce a senator by 2027.

“With Patigi likely to produce a Nupe-speaking senator, equity demands that Moro be supported for the House of Representatives so that no part of our constituency feels marginalised,” he stated.

He warned against a winner-takes-all approach to politics, describing democracy as a system that thrives on inclusion, dialogue and accommodation. According to him, sustained peace and development in the constituency depend on continued cooperation among Edu, Moro and Patigi local governments.

While acknowledging the leadership roles played by Edu and Patigi since 1999, the APC stalwart insisted that it was time to give Moro a sense of belonging at the federal level.

He appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, party leaders, elders, youths, women and other stakeholders across the constituency to rally behind the Moro aspiration ahead of 2027.

Alhassan also urged political actors within Moro Local Government Area to set aside internal differences and work together to present a united front in pursuit of the House of Representatives seat.
