From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

In a renewed push to confront the escalating wave of insecurity in Kwara State, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Police Force have pledged to strengthen their cooperation to restore public safety.

This commitment was highlighted recently when the Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr. Umar Mohammed, received the new Commissioner of Police, CP Adeyemi Ojo, during a courtesy visit to the corps’ headquarters in Ilorin.

Dr. Mohammed described the meeting as both strategic and necessary, stressing that the worsening security situation in the state demands unified action.

“With the rise in kidnapping and other violent crimes, the era of working in silos is over,” he said.

“No single agency can handle the complexity of today’s threats. We must collaborate, share intelligence and implement joint strategies to ensure the safety of our people.”

Responding, CP Ojo praised the NSCDC for its proactive approach and expressed readiness to work hand-in-hand with the corps to enhance security operations.

He underscored the importance of synergy among security outfits, warning against inter-agency rivalry, especially among lower-ranking officers.

“For us to succeed, we must eliminate unhealthy competition and promote a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation across board,” the police commissioner stated.

Both security heads agreed to deepen intelligence sharing and conduct joint operations in flashpoint areas across the state, marking a significant step in the fight against crime in Kwara.
