The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested 12 individuals over alleged vandalism and theft of electric cables across different parts of the state.

Spokesperson for the command, DSP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects were apprehended in their hideouts within and outside Ado-Ekiti by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), in collaboration with local vigilantes.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime. Items recovered from them included rolls of armored cables, recline cables, aluminum conductors, electrical cables, a transformer feeder pillar, binding wire, and generator parts.

“This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to curb infrastructure vandalism, which has been crippling power supply in communities. The arrested suspects will soon be arraigned in court,” Abutu said.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, emphasizing that the police will not relent in ensuring the safety of public infrastructure.
