From Joseph Adahnu , Yola

The North East Development Commission (NEDC), is distributing essential food items to vulnerable groups and key organisations in Yola.

This is part of a renewed effort to foster cordial working relationships and ease the work of institutions that support communities across the state.

The distribution which is led by the Adamawa State Coordinator, Barrister Khalifa Lawan, said the outreach aligns with a directive from the Commission’s headquarters to reach out to organisations and vulnerable groups across Adamawa before the end of the year.

“Today, we have commenced the distribution of these items to key organisations that play vital roles in our society,” Lawan said. “The gesture is to support them and ease their work as they continue serving the public and vulnerable people in their care.”

The first beneficiaries of the exercise, started with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), before extending to other organisations across Yola. This was followed by Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Damilu, and Goni Musa Tumo Tsangayya Wauro Jabbe Islamic School. Others were Jama’atu Nasril Islam, a Children’s Home, as well as the Jimeta and Yolde-Pate Correctional Centres among others.

The exercise and the items were delivered not through any intermediaries but directly to the organisations at their respective locations.

Representatives of the beneficiary groups expressed appreciation for the support, noting that the intervention would significantly ease their day-to-day activities and strengthen their capacity to serve vulnerable individuals and communities.

Barrister Lawan reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting institutions and vulnerable groups across the North East, describing such interventions as central to the NEDC’s mandate of uplifting communities and improving social welfare.
