Residents of Crown Estate opposite Army Barrack Lokoja, have appealed for government’s intervention to address the acute water scarcity in the area.

The Residents who have been facing acute water shortage since the rains halted, have urged the relevant authorities to provide potable water for the people.

The situation is alarming, with residents, including children and adults, waking up as early as 5 am to fetch water from alternative sources.

They go to far distances just so they can get water, not minding if the water is clean or not.

Many rely on water vendors, known as “Mairuwa,” who sell water at high prices, making it unaffordable to some.

Other affected areas include, Otokiti, Gadumo, Ganaja village, and old market area.

These areas are currently experiencing scarcity of water due to the absence of alternative sources of water.

The situation is further compounded by inadequate power supply that has made it impossible for those with boreholes pump water for use and sell to the public.

The State Government has currently embarked on a rehabilitation of water facilities across Lokoja to address the water challenge.

It would be recalled that the Great Lokoja Water Works, the primary water facility supplying communities across Lokoja has been non-functional due to damaged mechanical and electrical equipments caused by the 2022 floods.
