From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The management of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has responded to a viral social media post alleging that the Council of Legal Education (CLE), has suspended the university’s admission into its Law programme.

The post claims that KWASU was admitting and graduating law students without proper accreditation from the Council.

In a statement issued by the University Registrar, Dr. Kikelomo Sallee, and made available to journalists in Ilorin, the management debunked the allegations, affirming that both the Common Law and Common and Islamic Law programmes are fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Council of Legal Education (CLE).

“For the avoidance of doubt, the law programmes of KWASU received NUC’s approval in 2018/2019 and secured full accreditation from both NUC and CLE in 2021,” the statement read.

The university further clarified that since receiving CLE accreditation in 2021, it has adhered to the prescribed admission quota of 50 students per session.

KWASU reassured the public of its commitment to upholding the highest standards of legal education, emphasizing its respect for the Council of Legal Education.

The university urged prospective students and the public to disregard the misleading social media reports, reiterating that its law programmes remain fully accredited.
