The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has announced that 82 students will be graduating with First Class honours out of a total of 8,119 students set to receive various degrees at its 13th Convocation Ceremony.

Speaking during a news conference held at the university’s main campus in Malete, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, said the figures reflect the institution’s steady academic growth.
“Out of the total number of graduands, 1,986 will receive Second Class Upper, 4,195 made Second Class Lower, while 1,355 are graduating with Third Class degrees,” he stated.
He added that 426 students completed master’s programmes, while 82 earned doctoral degrees during the period under review.
Professor Jimoh explained that the university had recorded significant development over the past year, noting improvements in infrastructure and maintenance efforts.
“We have embarked on new building projects while ensuring proper maintenance of existing structures. The progress we have made is visible across our campuses,” he said.
He disclosed that KWASU scholars continue to attract major research grants, especially in engineering and agriculture, with the university strengthening its reputation in innovation and applied research.
The VC also revealed that the state government has been utilising the university’s vehicle conversion Centre to revive grounded government vehicles.
“This collaboration shows the value of our technical expertise and our commitment to supporting the state’s development,” he added.
Professor Jimoh highlighted the institution’s entrepreneurship training for undergraduates, designed to groom students into job creators rather than job seekers.
“Our entrepreneurship programme exposes students to emerging opportunities and equips them with practical skills needed for the future,” he said.
He assured staff of continued welfare benefits, noting that the university is sustaining its school fees rebate for up to four biological children of staff studying at the institution.
Calling on the government for support, the Acting Vice Chancellor appealed for the construction of a flyover at the Shao–Jebba highway junction to curb frequent accidents.
“We are urging the state government to help us with a flyover to reduce the rate of accidents along that dangerous intersection,” he said.
The 13th Convocation Ceremony is expected to showcase KWASU’s academic achievements and reaffirm its position as a fast-growing institution in Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
