The Kwara State Police Command, has dismissed claims that a 23-year-old motorcyclist, was shot by police officers during an incident at Oyun Bridge, Ilorin, urging members of the public to disregard unverified reports circulating on social media.
The Command said the incident occurred during routine patrol and stop-and-search operations around the bridge when the motorcyclist, identified as Abdurasaq Lukman, allegedly riding at top speed, knocked down a police officer, Corporal Saka Azeez.
According to the police, the impact left Corporal Azeez with serious head injuries and a fracture, while Lukman sustained minor injuries.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi ANIPR, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Adekimi Ojo.

The Command stressed that “no person was shot” during the incident, contrary to claims accompanying a video currently circulating online.
It explained that following the incident, other police officers at the scene immediately intervened and took both the injured officer and the motorcyclist to a medical facility for treatment.
“Abdurasaq Lukman was treated and discharged. He is presently in police custody aiding investigations,” the statement said.
The police added that Corporal Azeez remained under medical care and would require further medical examination and scans to determine the full extent of the head injury he sustained.
The Command appealed to members of the public to exercise caution before sharing information about police activities, particularly materials circulating on social media without verification.
CP Ojo acknowledged the concerns of citizens over police operations but stressed the need to verify information before circulation to avoid unnecessary anxiety and misunderstanding.
The police urged members of the public to rely on verified information from the Command when seeking clarification on incidents involving its personnel.
