From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, has led a solidarity visit to his Niger State counterpart, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, following the recent wave of terrorist attacks in communities within the Borgu Emirate of Niger State.

The visit, which underscored growing concerns over insecurity along the Kwara–Niger corridor, also opened fresh discussions on collaborative strategies to curb violent attacks affecting border communities in both states.

AbdulRazaq, who also chairs the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, described the attacks as tragic and devastating, noting that innocent lives were lost while families were displaced and sources of livelihood destroyed.

“The attacks are unfortunate and heartbreaking. These nefarious activities have claimed many lives, destroyed livelihoods and rendered many people homeless,” he said, extending the sympathy of the Kwara State Government and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to the government and people of Niger State.

He assured that governors across the country would continue to work closely with relevant security agencies and federal authorities to confront the rising security threats.

Responding, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a strong show of unity and shared responsibility between neighbouring states facing similar security pressures.

“It is heartwarming and a clear demonstration of togetherness, especially as our two states share borders around the Borgu Emirate and are both bedevilled by security challenges,” Bago said.

The meeting is expected to strengthen inter-state collaboration, intelligence sharing and coordinated security operations aimed at restoring peace to affected communities and preventing further attacks along the shared boundaries.
