From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Kwara State House of Assembly, has approved a total budget of N656,595,559,298.49 for the 2026 fiscal year, marking an increase of over N10 billion from the figures initially proposed by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The approval followed the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation during plenary on Friday.

Chairman of the committee, Arinola Lawal, presented the report while the House, under the leadership of Speaker Engr Yakubu Danladi Salihu, deliberated and passed the bill.

Governor AbdulRazaq had earlier submitted N646,004,816,893 as the 2026 budget estimate in December 2025. The increase of N10,590,742,405.49, according to Lawal, reflects adjustments to key capital projects and provision for emerging priorities in the state.

Lawal emphasised that the budget is “strategically designed to accelerate development across critical sectors including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture, while also ensuring fiscal responsibility.”

Speaker Salihu added that the House’s approval “signals our commitment to supporting the government’s developmental agenda while safeguarding transparency and accountability in public spending.”

With the 2026 budget now passed, the state government is expected to roll out its projects and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents across Kwara State.
