The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf has congratulated the newly elected chairmen and councillors in Saturday’s local government elections in the state.

The Speaker’s message was contained in a press statement signed and made available to the media by his Chief Press Secretary, Yabagi Mohammed.

The Speaker particularly expressed happiness that the people of the state kept faith with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the election, stating that it is a result of the good governance they are enjoying under the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

He said he had no doubt in his mind that the party would win in a landslide manner as demonstrated in the final results, even though the party’s leadership did not leave anything to chance and ensured aggressive campaigns in the run-up to the polls.

The Speaker said since the inauguration of the current government, the welfare of the people, particularly the civil servants and rural dwellers topped the agenda of Governor Ododo, hence the massive appeal the APC currently enjoys among the people of the state.

With the election of the Chairmen, the Speaker said a new page for sustained grassroots development in Kogi State has been opened, something that would bring all round improvement in infrastructure and welfare of the masses.

He further applauded Governor Ododo for ensuring a level playing field for all stakeholders in the election, noting that it has created a new phase in Local Government Administration for the state.

He also used the opportunity to applaud the Chairman of Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission, (KOSIEC), Mr Nda Eri, for his bravery and commitment to ensuring the votes of the people counted as seen in the transparency, fair and credible nature of the election.

Rt Hon Umar also charged the new Chairmen and councilors to ensure good governance in their various Local Government Areas and Wards for improved welfare for the entire state.
