Insecurity: Lawmaker calls for proactive measures from Kwara Traditional Rulers

A member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Tijanni Ismail, has urged traditional rulers and stakeholders in Kwara State to adopt proactive strategies in tackling the growing insecurity in their communities.

Representing Offa, Oyun, and Ifelodun Federal Constituency, Mr. Ismail, made this call during a sensitization session in Idofian, where he emphasized the need for stronger security measures to safeguard lives and properties in the region.

The event, themed “Building a People of Peace,” was organized by the Office of the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Malam Isa Onilu.

Onilu, represented by the State Director of NOA, Alhaji Dare Abdulganiyu, expressed concern over the rising security threats in Kwara South, while also commending the state governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his proactive approach in addressing these challenges.

Onilu stressed that unity among community leaders, religious figures, and security agencies is essential to curbing the wave of criminal activities plaguing the region. He added, “Peace is the bedrock of any society’s emotional and psychological well-being.”

Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers, the Olusin of Isanlu Isin, Oba Solomon Oloyede, advocated for constitutional recognition of the roles of traditional leaders to better perform their responsibilities in ensuring security.

Representatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Police also affirmed their commitment to restoring peace in the area.

Prince Sunday Fagbemi, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara, reiterated Governor AbdulRazaq’s dedication to flushing out criminal elements in the state, noting the recent deployment of military personnel to Kwara South as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen security.

The event concluded with the presentation of motorcycles to various security outfits, aimed at improving their mobility in tackling insecurity in Kwara South.
