The Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf, has awarded a scholarship of three million naira to 30 Oworo students.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Yabagi Mohammed, and made available to the media indicated that this was part of his campaign promises and a testament to his commitment to the community that elected him.
The scholarship was presented during the National Convention of the Students Union in Karara, Lokoja Local Government Area.
The Speaker who was represented at the event of by the Local Government Chairman, Comrade Abdulllahi Adamu, noted that the decision to present the scholarship was part of his campaign promises in the run-up to his election.
He emphasised that his victory was made possible by the support of the people of Lokoja II, and he is dedicated to giving back to the community.
The Speaker called on the students to be serious in their studies, noting that it is the only way they could become better citizens of the country and the State.
This act of kindness is a significant investment in the future of these students and a demonstration of the Speaker’s dedication to education and youth development.
He promised that the scheme would become a yearly intervention from his office, and praised the continued support being enjoyed from the member of the National Assembly for Lokoja/Kogi Kotonkarfe Federal Constituency, Hon Danladi Aguye and others, which he said has brought about positive socioeconomic turnaround in the area.
On his part, the Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, who chaired the convention, commended the leadership of the body for the numerous programmes that have improved the welfare of Oworo Students and Oworo Community in general.
He charged the Students to continue to improve and find ways to be useful to the Community in all ramifications.
Comrade Adamu further pledged to initiate a personal support programme for the Oworo Students from 2025.
The scholarship scheme covered students from Agbaja, Tajimi, Ogbabon, Ibaru, Jakura, Oyo, Oshokoshoko, Jamata, Karara, Akpata and Irimi Branches of the Students Association.
