The Kogi State Government has announced the commencement of the first phase of its bursary disbursement scheme for indigenous students, following approval from the Executive Governor.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has authorised the disbursment of ₦403.035 million to 13,175 students of Kogi origin in the first tranche of the exercise, which forms part of a broader ₦646.8 million bursary package.
The initiative is designed to cushion the financial burden of tertiary education and reaffirm the administration’s commitment to educational advancement and youth empowerment across the state.

Under the approved structure, students in medical-related programmes will receive ₦75,000 each, while regular undergraduates in other disciplines will be entitled to ₦30,000 each.
According to the government, the first phase will be restricted to eligible Kogi students who are currently enrolled in tertiary institutions located within the state.
The disbursement is expected to benefit students across universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions owned by the state government and federal institutions domiciled in Kogi..
The government has assured that the process will be transparent and merit-based, with stringent measures in place to ensure that only verified students benefit from the scheme.
It further urged beneficiaries to utilise the funds judiciously for their academic needs, noting that the second phase of the disbursement will be announced in due course.
