Kogi State Government House Administration, has organised a 3-day On -The -Job-Training (OJT),workshop for it’s staff as parts of the efforts to update and improve their skills, knowledge and efficiency for effective service delivery.
Themed, ” Strategy And Strategic Planning In Civil Service”, the training which held in Glass House, Government House, Lokoja, attracted participants such as; Administrative and Accounting officers, Executive officials, Engineers, Nurse/Medical personnel and clerical officers from the Deputy Governor’s Office as well as the Office of the First lady of Kogi State.
The workshop which is first of it’s kind, provided a platform for the staff to engage with experts facilitators who were on hand to equip them with comprehensive understanding of the civil service rules and regulations.
Speaking at the event, the Director General, Government House Administration, Adm Umaru Shaibu Oricha, disclosed that on-the-job training gives room for practice which provides opportunities to apply what has been learnt just as he emphasised, ” this is the aspect of feedback which offers constructive input to improve performance”.
He highlighted some of the benefits of the on-the-job training to include; practical application, reduction of theory gap and improvement of retention.
According to him, it would also go a long way in providing skill development and cross-training for new employees freshly coming onboard.
The DG Government House commended the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Odoodo for providing the enabling environment for the workers to in their respective fields.
“I believe that after this programme , workers will not remain the same, there will be a change of mindset and change of approach to civil service rules and regulations”, he further added.
In his contribution, Chairman of the Kogi State Civil Service Commission, Barr. Muhammed Tanko, stated that such capacity building programmes must be encouraged at all Emphasising the training encourages continuity in civil service.
Earlier in her remarks, Director Administration, Government House Administration, Mrs. Praise Akubor, had disclosed that the workshop was aimed at upholding the highest standard of professionalism and integrity just as she pointed out that it was also a crucial step in ensuring that staff are up-to-date with the required knowledge and skills for effective performance.
Also speaking, Director Training, Mr Olutimehin Gbenga, said the training was expected to enhance the over all performances and efficiency of the staff ; just as he urged the participants to make use of the training by applying what they have learnt to their work.
