From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Ilorin community leaders, have commended the Kwara State Police Command, for what they described as improved security across the state, attributing the relative peace to intelligence-led policing, technology and stronger collaboration among security agencies.

The commendation was made when the Magaji Nda of Ilorin, Dr. Saliu Mohammed, led traditional chiefs and community leaders on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, in Ilorin.

Mohammed, a retired police officer and former spokesperson, described CP Adekimi as a “Digital Police”, saying the command’s emphasis on intelligence gathering and proactive policing had contributed to the reduction in criminal activities across the state.

He also cited the recent rescue of kidnapped residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area, as a major security achievement, crediting the feat to the strategic leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, the operational leadership of CP Adekimi and the cooperation among security agencies.

He said, “The relative peace we are witnessing in Kwara is not accidental. It is a product of intelligence gathering, proactive policing and collaboration among the various security agencies.”

The delegation, which included the Kure of Ilorin, Ajia-Opele of Ilorin and Mogaji-Bamidele of Ilorin, commended the professionalism and responsiveness of security personnel in the state.

The traditional and community leaders, however, stressed that sustaining the gains would require stronger cooperation between security agencies and residents.

Mohammed urged law-abiding citizens to provide security agencies with timely and credible information, noting that community intelligence remained critical to preventing crimes, identifying criminal networks and responding swiftly to security threats.

“Security cannot be left to the police and other security agencies alone. The community has a vital role to play by providing useful information that can help prevent crime and protect lives and property,” he said.

Responding, CP Adekimi, thanked the delegation for its confidence in the state’s security architecture and assured residents that the command would not take the relative peace in Kwara for granted.

He said the command would continue to strengthen intelligence-led operations, technology-driven policing, community engagement and collaboration with other security agencies.

The commissioner also pledged to close identified security gaps and maintain operational pressure on criminal elements to safeguard lives and property across the state.

The visit further underscored the growing partnership between traditional institutions, communities and security agencies in the ongoing efforts to consolidate peace and security in Kwara.
