The Kogi State Coordinating Commissioner for health, Dr AbdulAzeez Adeiza, has called for renewed commitment to Science as the state join the world to mark the 2026 World Health Day.

Adeiza who made the call in his address at a press conference in Lokoja, the state capital, emphasised the need to strengthen partnerships between government, academia, development partners and companies to promote trust in science and counter misinformation.

“This year’s theme., Together for Science, speaks directly to the heart of public health practice and our shared responsibility to improve the wellbeing of our people as a state.
According to him, science has always been the foundation of progress in health. “From disease prevention and control to improved diagnostic and treatment, science continues to save lives.”

He noted however, that the true strength of science lives in collaboration across sectors, disciplines and communities.

“In Kogi state, we recognise that advancing healthcare requires a united effort. This is why the government of Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, makes it a priority to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in all health investment in the state.

“In recent areas, the state has taken deliberate steps to strengthen the health system through evidence-based policies, improved data management and strengthen partnerships. Our commitment to Primary Healthcare revitalization, expansion of health insurance coverage and investment in healthcare infrastructure, reflects our belief in science-driven solutions.

“As a ministry, we remain committed to building a health system that is resilient, inclusive and responsive to the needs of our people. Over 150 PHCs are currently being revitilised across three 21 LGAs, while a great number of them have been completed and others at various stages of completion”, he said.

He commended healthcare professionals in the state for their dedication under challenging conditions, development partners for their unflinching support and urged Kogians to trust credible health information, utilize available health services and actively participate in promoting healthier communities.

Various stakeholders at the press conference, including: Kogi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, World Health Organization (WHO), Rotary International, Road Safety Corps, UNICEF, Civil Society amongst others, who gave their goodwill messages promised continuous collaboration with the state Ministry of Health to ensure health for all.

Prior to the Press Conference, was an awareness walk around Lokoja metropolis by the Ministry of Health, led by its management staffs, stakeholders and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), to commemorate the day.
