Gov. Ododo inaugurates Kogi NYSC Governing Board, reaffirms commitment to youth development

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has inaugurated the State Governing Board of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), with a pledge to strengthen youth development, national integration, and institutional support for the Scheme.

The Governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Joel Salifu, inaugurated the Board on Thursday, in Lokoja.

Speaking at the event, Governor Ododo thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his “bold commitment to youth empowerment and human capital development.”

He said the success of NYSC in the state depends on “effective coordination, sound policy direction, and strong collaboration among stakeholders.”

Describing the Board as a strategic institution, the Governor said members were selected based on competence, experience, and dedication to public service.

He expressed confidence in their ability to provide leadership for the smooth operation of the scheme in the state.

He charged the Board to prioritise the welfare, safety, and well-being of corps members, and to work closely with security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure a safe and conducive environment for service in Kogi.

“Your appointment is a call to greater service,” Ododo told the Chairman and members, urging them to “work harmoniously to promote the ideals of the NYSC.”

Earlier, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development and Chairman of the Board, Hon. Monday  Anyebe, said NYSC remains a vital platform for leadership, patriotism, and community service.

He noted that the Board will oversee the forthcoming inauguration of corps members in the state.

Hon. Anyebe commended Governor Ododo for prioritising youth development through deliberate policies and investments, and assured of continued partnership with the NYSC.

The State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Chris Tochi, said corps members would continue to support the state’s socio-economic growth and community development efforts.

The newly inaugurated Board is chaired by Hon. Monday Anyebe. Members include ACP Anslom Ali; Lieutenant Colonel I. S. Kar (N/12421); the State Coordinator of NYSC,  and the Commissioners of the Ministries of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Education, Science and Technology, as well as Commerce and Industry. The Board also has the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, and the Commander of the 12 Brigade Command, Chari Maigumeri Barracks, Lokoja, as members.
