Alhaji Tukur, the 3rd civilian Governor of the defunct Gongola State, former Chairman of the African Business Roundtable and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, after a brief illness.

The death was announced by the Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wunosikou.

“Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was a colossus who made remarkable contributions to the development of Adamawa State and Nigeria. His wealth of experience, wisdom and commitment to public service earned him a place of honour in our national history,” the Governor said.

Fintiri noted that he would personally miss the elder statesman’s wise counsel and the depth of experience he brought to bear on issues concerning the state and the nation, adding that “his passing has left a significant void that will be difficult to fill.”

He commended Tukur’s courage, foresight, patriotism and lifelong dedication to public service.

The Governor, on behalf of the Government and people of Adamawa State, extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, his friends, associates and the entire people of the state, urging them to draw strength from his enduring legacy of service and leadership.

In honour of the late statesman and in recognition of his immense contributions, Governor Fintiri has declared a three-day mourning period across Adamawa State. During the period, all flags are to fly at half-mast.

He prayed Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannah Firdaus and give his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was Governor of Gongola State (now Adamawa and Taraba) in the Second Republic (1983). He later became Chairman of the African Business Roundtable and National Chairman of the PDP from 2012 to 2014.
