Firefighters recover unidentified Man’s Body from river

The Kwara State Fire Service, has recovered the lifeless body of a middle-aged man, from a river along the Osin/Laduba axis in Ilorin West Local Government Area.

The incident, which occurred at about 2:42 p.m., was reported to the Fire Service by officials of the Kwara State Ministry of Environment who alerted emergency responders after the body was sighted in the river.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer and Head of Media Unit of the Service, PFO Hassan Adekunle, on behalf of the Director, firefighters were said to have responded promptly to the distress call.

According to the statement, “Our officers swiftly mobilised to the scene and successfully recovered the lifeless body of an unidentified male, estimated to be about 43 years old.”

The remains were subsequently handed over to officials of the Ministry of Environment for further necessary procedures, while health workers at the scene carried out fumigation of the body and surrounding area to safeguard public health.

Reacting to the development, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, CFS Alabi Muhammed, urged residents to exercise caution around rivers and other water bodies.

He said, “We appeal to members of the public to desist from engaging in unsafe activities around water bodies and to promptly report any suspicious movement or emergency to the appropriate authorities. Timely information greatly enhances our response efforts.”

The Director also stressed the importance of synergy among government agencies in protecting lives and maintaining environmental safety across the state.

The Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to emergency response and collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure the safety of residents in Kwara State.
