From Joseph Adahnu, Yola
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, says the state’s vast fertile land and agricultural potential have made farming a major driver of the economy.
The governor spoke on Monday in Yola during the official flag-off of the 50% subsidised fertiliser distribution for the 2026 farming season, held at the Adamawa State Agricultural Mechanisation Authority.
Fintiri charged farmers to use the inputs strictly for farming, warning against sale, hoarding, or diversion.
“The fertilisers were procured by the state government to support genuine farmers, improve agricultural productivity, and strengthen food security across the state,” he said. “Anyone found selling, hoarding, or diverting them will face appropriate sanctions.”
“The fertilisers are for farmers’ use and not for sale. They are intended to boost crop yields and improve food production across the state,” the governor added.
At the event, Fintiri officially launched the distribution of subsidised fertilisers to all 21 local government areas and recognised farmers’ associations for the 2026 season.
He described Adamawa as “a state blessed with vast fertile land and enormous agricultural potential,” noting that farming remains one of the key drivers of the state’s economy.
The governor said the subsidy reflects his administration’s commitment to supporting farmers, increasing crop production, and ensuring adequate food availability for residents and neighbouring communities.
Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s determination to continue implementing policies and programmes aimed at strengthening the agricultural sector, improving farmers’ livelihoods, and promoting sustainable economic growth through agriculture.
