From Taiye Joseph Ilorin

The 38 worshippers abducted two weeks ago in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have finally returned home, bringing relief and joy to their families and the entire community.

The victims, who had spent over a week in Ilorin receiving medical attention after their rescue, were handed over to the Executive Chairman of Ekiti Local Government Council, Mr Gabriel Awelewa, before being escorted back to Eruku on Tuesday evening.

Their arrival at about 6:30pm was met with loud cheers, songs of gratitude, and emotional reunion.

In a statement, Prince Dada Sunday, Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti Local Government Chairman, said Mr Awelewa expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the National Security Adviser, and all security agencies for their swift action.

“The timely response of our security agencies ensured the safe return of our people. We are particularly grateful for the medical care provided to the victims,” the statement quoted him as saying.

Mr Awelewa reassured residents that his administration would continue to strengthen security across the 10 wards of the council, emphasising that community safety remains a top priority.

The Owa of Eruku, Oba Busari Olanrewaju, also expressed deep appreciation to the authorities, describing the return of the worshippers as “a huge relief” for the community. Residents say the reunion has renewed hope, highlighting the importance of coordinated security efforts in curbing criminal activities in the region.
