From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), has expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, urging Christians to remain steadfast in prayer for the nation’s restoration and peace.

Following its 18th meeting at the Fate-Tanke District Church Council (ECWA F/T DCC) on Friday, ECWA condemned the rise in criminal activities, including banditry, kidnappings for ransom, and violent attacks by unidentified assailants.

These acts, the church noted, have not only jeopardized lives and livelihoods but have also hindered farmers from accessing their lands, further destabilizing the economy.

The church encouraged Christians to “be on the watchtower, praying day and night for God’s intervention.”

In a communiqué signed by ECWA Fate-Tanke DCC Chairman, Reverend Samuel Olanrewaju Olayioye, and Secretary, Rev’d Joseph Olabanji Agboluaje, the Council called on spiritual leaders to uphold integrity, stressing that their sacred duty to guide the flock must be carried out with accountability both to God and their communities.

The meeting, attended by 40 church representatives, also addressed key issues around the physical and spiritual growth of ECWA’s local churches and councils.

Attendees reaffirmed their commitment to ECWA’s doctrines, emphasizing unity and faithfulness in preserving the church’s heritage.

Additionally, ECWA dissolved various committees and installed new ones for the DCC, including those focused on mission, prayer, discipleship, and media.

The Council encouraged the new committees to carry out their duties with dedication, trusting in God’s reward for faithful service.

Recognising the importance of digital engagement, the Council urged pastors and church leaders to embrace social media responsibly, using it to spread positive and edifying messages.

The meeting also announced the church’s upcoming 10th-anniversary celebration in 2025, themed “Rejoice, Renew and Reconnect,” featuring prominent speakers which include Rev’d Ayuba Asheshe and Rev’d B.M Owojaiye.

In his sermon, Rev. Paul Bulus Gajere, reminded members of Christ’s imminent return, urging them to stay strong in faith, remain righteous, and continue trusting in God’s promises.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment to support church members amidst economic challenges and to promote unity within the ECWA community.
