…Reaffirms shared commitment to Proactive Disaster Management

From David Onuoja, Abuja

The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, has commended the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), for the timely release of the 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP), describing it as a vital tool for strengthening Nigeria’s disaster risk reduction and climate resilience efforts.

Speaking today at the public presentation of the 2026 SCP in Abuja, the Director-General stated that NEMA would immediately leverage the forecast to activate early flood preparedness and other climate risk management measures across the country.

Hajiya Umar disclosed that the Agency would soon convene a technical meeting of experts to analyse the predictions and produce detailed disaster risk implications, alongside actionable guidance for flood early preparedness and mitigation measures nationwide.
