Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Kwara State High Court in Ilorin on Monday, arraigned seven suspects in connection with the murder of Mojisola Awesu, a student of the State College of Health Technology, Offa, whose tragic death occurred last year.

However, the court was unable to take their pleas as the two principal accused persons, Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, were not represented by legal counsel.

Presiding over the case, Justice Ibrahim Yusuf, ordered that Adebayo and Kolawole be remanded in a correctional facility pending their proper arraignment on February 24.

Investigations revealed that Awesu was allegedly lured to Ilorin by Adebayo and Kolawole, where she was murdered and her body dumped at a dumpsite in the city.

Adebayo and Kolawole have been identified as the prime suspects accused of conspiring and causing Awesu’s death on August 9, 2024. Additionally, Adebayo’s parents, Adebayo Adeniyi and Bukola Adeniyi, are facing charges for allegedly conspiring to destroy evidence related to the case, an offense under the Penal Code Law of Kwara State, 2006.

Furthermore, Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus have been accused of conspiring to dispose of Awesu’s corpse at a dumpsite along Wara Road in Ilorin, a violation of the Kwara State Prohibition of Dealing in Human Parts Law, 2018.

Justice Yusuf stressed that the case would proceed as scheduled to ensure justice is served.
