Benin-Omotosho line tripping off, not system collapse -TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has refuted a report in some section of the media, that the nation’s grid collapsed was false, saying, it only trip off.

According to the General Manager, Public Affairs Department, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Ndidi Mbah, in a statement, said, the report in the media is a misinformation thereby, urged the public to disregard it.

Mbah, said, the Osogbo – Ihovour line tripped, followed by the tripping of the Benin – Omotosho line. These consequently affected bulk supply to only Lagos axis alone.

“It is important to clarify that just before the tripping, total generation on the grid was 4,335.63. After the trippings, however, generation was 2,573.23, showing clearly that the grid did not experience a collapse.

“The transmission line tripping affected Edbin, Olorunsogo,Omotoso, Geregu, and Paras. But these have all been restored except the Benin -Omotoso 330kV line”, it said.

It cautioned the media especially those misinforming the public to desist as that may have negative impact on the people, urging them to verify before going on press.

The statement therefore, assured the public that TCN will continue to work hard to put in place a robust transmission grid, inspite of prevailing challenges.
