From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN), has extended warm Easter greetings to Christians within the university and across Nigeria, calling on them to reflect the values of peace, sacrifice, and unity that the season embodies.

In a goodwill message issued through the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, Prof. Egbewole, described Easter as a sacred season that honours the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and one that holds deep spiritual significance for the Christian faithful.

“The greatness of Christ, which Easter reminds us of, lies in his selflessness, civility, and unwavering faith. These are virtues we must all strive to emulate in our personal and national lives,” he said.

While calling for moderation in celebrations, the Vice Chancellor, encouraged Christians to use the occasion to show compassion to the less privileged, noting that “true celebration is incomplete without extending love and support to those in need.”

Prof. Egbewole, who also serves as Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), praised the atmosphere of religious harmony on the university campus, where Muslims and Christians coexist peacefully.

“This culture of mutual respect and fraternity between religious groups within the University of Ilorin is a shining example for Nigeria. It proves that peaceful coexistence is not only possible but beneficial for collective progress,” he added.

He concluded by wishing all members of the university community and Christians across the country a peaceful, fulfilling, and joyful Easter celebration.
