From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

A devastating rainstorm recently left over 100 residents of Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State, homeless as it destroyed houses, schools, and market stalls.

Among the worst-hit institutions was Ansar Deen College, where more than 10 classrooms had their roofs blown away, forcing students and teachers out of their learning spaces.

The storm, which struck around 4 p.m., tore through the town, damaging property and exposing classrooms and disrupting academic activities.

Reacting to the incident, the school’s principals, Mr. Olaniyi Musbaudeen and Mrs. Saheed A.M., called on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for urgent intervention.

“We are deeply saddened by this disaster. The destruction of these classrooms poses a serious threat to our students’ education,” Mr. Musbaudeen said.

Mrs. Saheed warned that any delay in reconstruction could have long-term consequences on students’ academic progress. “We urgently need the government’s support to rebuild,” she added.

Residents also appealed for assistance, lamenting the extent of the damage to their homes and businesses. Many now face uncertainty, with no immediate shelter or means to recover from their losses.
