From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Kwara State Polytechnic is set to introduce 13 new degree programmes in affiliation with the University of Ilorin, a strategic move aimed at expanding educational opportunities for students in the state.

A resource inspection team from UNILORIN, led by Prof. Yahya Imam, recently visited the polytechnic to assess its facilities and ensure compliance with the university’s affiliation standards.

Speaking during the visit, Prof. Imam described the initiative as a major step in bridging the gap between polytechnic and university education.

“This collaboration will not only strengthen academic ties between both institutions but also provide more access to quality education for students,” he said.

He also conveyed the support of UNILORIN’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, for the partnership.

The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Abdul Muhammed, welcomed the development, emphasising its potential to ease admission challenges for students in the state.

“This affiliation will create more opportunities for our youths who aspire to earn university degrees without leaving the polytechnic environment,” he stated.

The new programmes are expected to take off soon, offering students a chance to obtain university degrees while studying at Kwara Poly.

Education stakeholders in the state have lauded the initiative as a boost to higher education accessibility and a testament to the polytechnic’s commitment to academic excellence.
