He however advised those in leadership positions, not to compromise their education, stressing the need for students in higher institutions to balance their studies and leadership aspirations.

According to the Speaker, gone are the days when students unionism was about confrontation, adding that there was the need to collaborate with the school management to ensure a conducive atmosphere for learning.

The Speaker noted that the Assembly was an institution saddled with the responsibility of making laws for the good of the society and ensuring a robust relationship among various segments of the society.

He said lawmaking is a serious business that requires rigorous intellectual, mental and considerate disposition, saying that as the Senate Arm, they should make laws for the benefit of the students.

Earlier in his address, the SUG Senate President, Federal University Lokoja, Michael Owonibi, said the essence of their visit was to give them the opportunity of having practical knowledge of the legislative process and procedures, noting that as leaders of the future, they want to become mentees of the Speaker.

He appealed to the Speaker to create the enabling environment that would allow them to be under his tutelage, and restate their commitment to making use of the opportunity the visit has afforded them.
