As part of efforts by the Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo -led administration to turn around the fortune of the civil service in Kogi State, top level executive of the Ministry of Information and Communications and its agencies are attending a two-day retreat in Abuja.

The retreat with the theme: ‘Media Management and Regulatory Compliance’ is aimed at updating participants with new trends in information and communication sector with the view to enhancing their performance on the job and service delivery.

Speaking at the retreat which is one of the series of lined up training approved for the Ministry, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Honourable Kingsley Fanwo, said the training is in consonance with the vision of Governor Ododo to bequeathe the state with a vibrant and responsive information sector.

The vision, according to Hon. Fanwo is to ensure that the state information sector does not only meet global best standard but serve as a veritable platform for feedback.

He said the decision to have top level executives of the Ministry and its agencies to participate in the retreat was deliberate because they are crucial in policy formulation and implementation.

The Ododo -led administration, he said is committed to rejigging the state information and communication organs in order to elicit appropriate feedbacks from the public to enhance good governance.

While charging participants to take advantage of the training, he emphasised that they will be expected to use knowledge garnered to positively impact on their respective organisations in the overall interest of the state.

Earlier, Rev. Fr. George Ehusani, Director of Lux Terra Leadership Foundation, Abuja, had urged participants to see their roles in the society as crucial, noting that information is critical for the development of every society.

He added that good use of information can bring about peace and effective conflict management, while ineffective use of it, can destroy many things.

Rev. Fr. Ehusani further remarked that communication belongs to the people and not meant to serve the interest of those in power, saying communication is often a two-way thing.

While appreciating the Kogi State government for the new thinking in government, he urged that the training should be sustained because of the huge benefit it would do the state.

Other seasoned media and information gurus like Dr. Bello Hameed of People’s Daily and Mrs. Francisca Aiyetan, amongst others, also made presentations at the retreat.
