The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, has pledged to consolidate Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s achievements and take the state to greater heights if elected in 2027.

Danladi-Salihu, who is also Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, made the promise on Friday, during the News Keg, an engagement programme organised by the Kwara State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He said his seven years in the legislature had equipped him with sufficient knowledge of the state’s challenges and development priorities.

“My brother has laid a good foundation for Kwara, and the next step is for us to build on that foundation. I am part and parcel of the foundation. It will therefore be easier for us to consolidate the gains already recorded,” he said.
Highlighting his constituency interventions, Danladi-Salihu, disclosed that he facilitated about 210 boreholes, interventions in 18 primary healthcare centres, construction and rehabilitation of rural roads, including a 33-kilometre road, and training of 300 local security personnel.
He identified agriculture, electricity, education, healthcare, security and human capital development as priorities, promising balanced development across Kwara North, Central and South.
The APC candidate, an electrical engineering graduate, currently pursuing a PhD in economic development, also pledged to improve rural infrastructure to boost agricultural productivity and economic opportunities.
Earlier, Chairman of the News Keg Committee, Ibrahim Alege, said the programme was designed to shift political discussions from permutations to governance, accountability and issues affecting residents.
“Our responsibility as journalists is to ask questions, seek answers and provide the electorate with the information they need to make informed decisions,” he said, stressing that the platform was not for political endorsements.
Alege said the initiative would provide candidates across political parties equal opportunities to present their programmes ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Similarly, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Biola Azeez, commended Danladi-Salihu for accepting the invitation and pledged the chapel’s commitment to constructive engagement with political stakeholders.
The event was attended by Danladi-Salihu’s running mate, Hon. Seun Ogunniyi; Ilorin West Local Government Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Ladan; Commissioner for Health, Dr Aminah El-Imam; members of the APC campaign team and other stakeholders.
