From Joseph Adahnu, Yola
The Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria [LCCN], has charged Christians to pursue wealth through hard work and righteous living, warning against get-rich-quick schemes.
The charge was given at the close of a five-day Divisional Revival held in Kofare, Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The revival, which ran from July 2 to July 5, 2026, drew Pastors, Reverends, and members of churches under the Wablai District.
Delivering the closing sermon on Sunday, July 5, Reverend Pwamori Obidah preached from Luke 5:1–11, the account of Peter’s miraculous catch of fish. His sermon was titled: “Hear the Word of God and Act Accordingly.”
Rev. Obidah noted that Jesus came to save humanity, just as Moses was called to deliver Israel from Egypt. He recalled how Peter, a professional fisherman, toiled all night without a catch until Jesus instructed him to cast his net into the deep.
“Despite his earlier failure, Peter obeyed, saying, ‘At your word, I will let down the net,’” Obidah said. “The catch was so great that the net began to break, and he had to call his partners for help.”
The cleric stressed that Peter and his companions left everything to follow Jesus rather than focusing only on the fish. “Jesus does not force anyone to follow Him,” he said. “But backsliding among Christians is one of the major reasons for unanswered prayers.”
He urged believers to wake from spiritual slumber and hold firmly to Christ as their personal Saviour.
On wealth creation, Rev. Obidah cautioned the congregation: “Not all wealth is genuine. I urge you to seek your wealth through honest hard work, not through get-rich-quick schemes, but through diligence rooted in Christ.”
He called on Christians to walk in God’s ways, show love to both Christians and non-Christians, and turn away from evil.
“God is fully aware of all you are going through,” he assured. “If you live according to His will, He will answer your prayers.”
