From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has taken into custody a 40-year-old man, AbdulRauf Ambali, over allegations bordering on incest, sexual abuse of his 14-year-old biological daughter, and alleged facilitation of abortion.

The Command said the suspect was arrested after credible information was received from concerned residents of Alapa in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, prompting immediate action by operatives.

According to a statement issued by the Command, the case was initially reported at the Alapa Divisional Office on June 16, 2026, before it was transferred to the NSCDC Gender Unit for detailed investigation.

Interestingly, the matter first came to the attention of the Corps when the suspect himself reported that his daughter had been missing from home for about three weeks.

However, upon commencement of investigation, NSCDC operatives traced the teenager, who later gave a disturbing account of her stay with her father. The victim reportedly told investigators that she ran away from home after months of alleged sexual abuse, intimidation, and physical assault.

Findings by the Corps indicated that the girl had earlier lived with her grandmother before being taken to her father in December 2025 under the claim of providing parental care. She alleged that the abuse began shortly after she moved in with him.

She further disclosed that she was repeatedly threatened and assaulted whenever she resisted, adding that the situation became unbearable, forcing her to flee without informing anyone.

Investigators also revealed that the victim became pregnant in May 2026 as a result of the alleged abuse.

She reportedly said she was taken to a private medical facility where the pregnancy was confirmed, after which arrangements were allegedly made to terminate it.

She also alleged she was warned not to disclose the incident and was later advised on family planning.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to having unlawful sexual relations with the minor.

Reacting to the development, the Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Abbas Mohammed, described the allegation as “a deeply disturbing and unacceptable act that betrays parental trust and violates the dignity and rights of a child.”

He said the Corps remains firmly committed to protecting children and other vulnerable persons in society, stressing that it will not relent in tackling sexual and gender-based violence across the state.

“The NSCDC will continue to deploy all lawful measures to ensure that perpetrators of child abuse, exploitation, and related offences are brought to justice,” he said.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report cases of abuse promptly, assuring that all information would be treated with strict confidentiality and professionalism.
