The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), said that the National Grid partial collapse has occurred at approximately 10:48 hours on January 27, 2026, putting the Country into darkness.
In a statement issued and signed by the management of NISO on Tuesday, the management said the collapse was within a week after the last one that happened on Friday 23rd, January, 2026
According to NISO, “the national grid experienced a voltage disturbance which originated from the Gombe Transmission Substation.
“The voltage disturbance rapidly propagated across the network, affecting Jebba, Kainji, and subsequently Ayede Transmission Substations. The event which make some transmission lines and generating units to tripping off, resulted in a partial system collapse”, it said.
It however, said that appropriate corrective actions were immediately been implemented to stabilise the system and restore normal operations. Saying, that the restoration, which began at about 11:11am has since been completed.
NISO, equally said that, the incident only affected part of the grid therefore, not a total collapse as reported by some media organisations.
It also said that the national grid has been fully restored immediately and electricity supply across the affected areas has since returned to normalcy.
