From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), has presented the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP), revalidation certificates to Ayo-Ayodele Pharmaceutical Limited for its Dele Pad and Dele Cotton Wool products, reaffirming the company’s compliance with national quality and safety standards.

Speaking during the presentation in Ilorin, the SON State Coordinator, Engr. Oyewopo Ademola, represented by Mrs Abiola Bayero, said the certification underscores the company’s consistency and commitment to producing safe and hygienic medical consumables for Nigerians.

“MANCAP is more than a regulatory exercise; it is a statement of integrity and reliability,” she said.

“By meeting the requirements again, Ayo-Ayodele Pharmaceutical has shown strong internal quality processes and readiness to compete confidently in the Nigerian market.”

She urged the company to continue adhering to good manufacturing practices, assuring that SON remains available to support its journey toward global quality benchmarks.

The General Manager of Ayo-Ayodele Pharmaceutical Chemist Nigeria Limited, Mr Maruf Lawal, described the certification as encouragement for the company’s drive to maintain quality and affordability.

“Over the years, we have strived to maintain good quality and strictly follow good manufacturing practices,” he said.

“Today’s certificates will further strengthen our determination to provide Nigerians with reliable products. We appreciate SON Kwara for their consistent guidance and we will continue to apply all recommendations.”

Lawal, however, raised concerns about the increasing circulation of substandard cotton wool and sanitary pads in the country, noting the negative impact on producers who follow due process.

“What we have all over Nigeria now is substandard, poorly labelled and low-quality products that are not fit for human use,” he lamented. “These are surgical and medical consumables that require pure and proper production processes. We have made our concerns known to SON several times and we hope for stronger action to curb the infiltration of fake products in the market.”

Ayo-Ayodele Pharmaceutical Chemist Nigeria Limited, manufactures cotton wool, sanitary pads, cotton balls, bleached cotton and disposable caps, while its partner firm, HMA Medical, produces syringes, needles, intravenous fluids and other pharmaceutical items.

The event ended with renewed assurances from both SON and the company to sustain quality and protect Nigerian consumers from harmful medical products.
