UNILORIN kicks off 50 years of excellence with grand Anniversary Walk

The University of Ilorin, has officially launched activities to mark its 50th anniversary, beginning with a lively Anniversary Walk that attracted large crowd of staff, students, alumni, and well-wishers.
Speaking at the Main Gate to flag off the walk, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, praised the university community for their enthusiastic participation. He described their turnout as a strong testament to their dedication to the growth and vision of the institution.
“This golden jubilee is not just a celebration of the past; it is a reflection of our achievements of over five decades and a declaration of our readiness to embrace future innovations,” Prof. Egbewole said.
The Vice Chancellor highlighted that the walk also reinforces UNILORIN’s enduring relationship with its host community, underscoring the university’s role as a key driver of socio-economic development in Ilorin and across Kwara State.
Prof. Egbewole further acknowledged the support of development partners and friends of the university from around the globe, emphasising that their contributions have been pivotal to the institution’s growth and the success of its anniversary events.
He added that the walk would culminate with a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR. “This visit is symbolic, as the Emirate has been integral to the university’s journey since its founding,” he noted.
The Anniversary Walk marks the beginning of a year-long series of events celebrating UNILORIN’s legacy and continued commitment to academic excellence and community engagement.
