The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kogi State Chapter, has emphasised the need for governments at all levels to prioritise the empowerment and protection of girls’ rights.

This appeal was made by the Chairperson, Comrade Stella Edoka, in a statement marking the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.

Edoka stressed that investing in girls’ education, health, and leadership is crucial for building a more equitable and prosperous society.

She advocated for access to quality education, healthcare, and opportunities for personal growth and leadership for every girl.

The NAWOJ Chairperson also urged the Kogi State Government to implement a free sanitary pad distribution program for schoolgirls to improve menstrual hygiene, boost confidence, and reduce absenteeism.

Highlighting the theme “The Girl I Am: The Change I Lead,” Edoka noted that girls have the potential to drive transformative change with the right support and environment.

She called for collective action to create a society where every girl can thrive, lead, and contribute to community and national development.

Edoka reaffirmed NAWOJ’s commitment to promoting gender equity and amplifying the voices of girls and women in Kogi State and Nigeria.
