Write books to boost knowledge, Tanko Mohammed urges civil servants

Retired and serving civil servants in the state have been charged to write books that will impart knowledge and skills capable of making significant contributions to the growth and development of the state.

The Chairman kogi State Civil Service Commission, Barrister Tanko Mohammed stated this while giving his opening remarks at the launch of a book titled, ‘Enhancing Good Governance in kogi State’ written by Emmanuel Achimugu.

Speaking further at the event held in Lokoja, Barrister Mohammed urged retired and serving civil servants to write books to support knowledge and training in various fields to fast track the growth and development of the state.

Barrister Tanko, who was also the Chairman of the occasion, described the book as a master piece that would impart a great deal of knowledge to Kogites and generations yet unborn.

He used the occasion to appeal to Kogi citizens to emulate the achievement of Mr Achimugu, saying such knowledge and skill development should not be left untapped, even as he applauded him for remaining active in retirement.

In his remark, the Director General Protocol, Government House, Lokoja, Alhaji Sulaiman Ibrahim, advised civil servants to take a critical look at the book to equip themselves with the relevant knowledge as well as training on the rules and regulations of civil service.

He equally enjoined them to read and learn more from the book to acquire the vital knowledge that would enable them make informed and bold decisions that can creat new impact and add value to civil service.

On his part, the book reviewer, Dr Michael Abu of Federal University Lokoja, explained that the book which comprises of eleven chapters, gives a clearer insight into the agitation that brought about the creation of Kogi State.

The book also speaks on the Senator Amodu Ali, chaired committee, former Miliary Administrators and Governors that rule the state as well as the challenges faced by civil servants among others.

Earlier, the Author of the Book, Mr. Emmanuel Achimugu highlighted four issues that prompted him to embark on the project to include :The unity of Kogi State, the need to document the efforts and legacies of past and present leaders/governors for the future generations, as well as the need for government to accord priority attention to the civil service to enable it become viral, rubots effective and efficient .

He advised civil servants to be diligent, focused, determined, trustful and committed to enable them attain their desired goals.

According to Achimugu, the book Enhancing Governance in Kogi State: A Bureaucratic Approach’ is a researched book that offers a unique perspective on governance in the state.

The book provides a comprehensive analysis of the challenges facing the state and offers practical solutions for addressing them.

In addition, the book provides a framework for effective governance, emphasising the importance of efficient administrative systems, effective policy implementation, and good governance practices.
