From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin
The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, will reposition the country for sustainable development and national pride.
Malam Issa-Onilu stated this during a media engagement organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, in Ilorin, themed “Can Citizens Still Be Hopeful in a Renewed Hope Era?”
He emphasised the need for patriotism among Nigerians, urging citizens to adopt positive attitudes that will contribute to the nation’s progress.
According to him, the situation inherited by President Tinubu requires a complete overhaul to ensure economic viability.
The NOA boss explained that for microeconomic improvements to take effect, macroeconomic indicators must first be stabilised.
He acknowledged that development often comes with challenges but maintained that the present administration is making steady efforts to enhance revenue generation.
Malam Issa-Onilu noted that Nigeria’s debt servicing ratio now stands at 63 percent, with about 37 percent of revenue available for government expenditure—an improvement from previous years.
He further stated that the stock market has been reinvigorated, restoring investor confidence and attracting businesses to the country.
On revenue generation, he highlighted that Nigeria now produces over 1.5 million barrels of crude oil daily for the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), strengthening the economy.
He called on Nigerians to embrace a culture of conservation and actively contribute to national growth and development.
In his remarks, the Chairman of NUJ Kwara State Council, Malam Ahmed Abdullateef, said the media engagement was organised to enlighten the public on government policies and programs. He stressed that such forums provide citizens with the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussions on issues affecting them.
Malam Abdullateef also urged the government to formulate policies that have a direct and positive impact on Nigerians.
