From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Residents of Ilorin and several communities in Kwara South Senatorial District, have been urged to remain alert following reports of a possible coordinated attack by suspected terrorists and bandits in parts of the state.

The alert affects three local government areas — Ifelodun Local Government Area, Irepodun Local Government Area and Isin Local Government Area — where residents have been placed on high alert after intelligence suggested that attacks may be planned for March 23 and on March 28, 2026.

The warning was issued by the Joint Security Watch through its coordinator, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, who called on residents to stay calm but remain vigilant.

He said security agencies across the state had already been notified and were taking steps to prevent any possible breach.

“In view of the speculative bandits’ attacks on March 23 and March 28, authorities including the Kwara State Police Command, chairmen of Ifelodun, Irepodun and Isin local government areas, and other security agencies have been informed and are taking necessary precautions to protect citizens,” he said.

Oyin-Zubair also appealed to residents not to ignore unusual movements within their communities, stressing that early reporting could help avert disaster.

“We urge everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities. Your safety is our priority. Let’s work together to keep our communities safe,” he added.

Community leaders in the affected areas are also advising residents to avoid panic while cooperating fully with security personnel who are said to be monitoring the situation closely.

Although the Kwara State Police Command is yet to officially confirm the intelligence report, sources say security operatives are already stepping up surveillance across the three local government areas.

The development has raised fresh concerns among residents, especially as banditry and armed attacks continue to spread from Nigeria’s North-West and parts of the North-Central region to states that were previously considered relatively peaceful.
