From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Panic has gripped residents of Tenebo village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, following a deadly attack by suspected bandits on a Mobile Police Force (PMF) camp in the early hours of Saturday.

The overnight assault, which reportedly occurred under the cover of darkness, left casualties among security personnel stationed at the facility, further heightening fears over the worsening security situation in the area.

Local sources said the attackers struck unexpectedly, throwing the community into confusion as gunshots echoed through the village. The exact number of casualties had yet to be officially confirmed as of the time of filing this report.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, acknowledged the incident and assured that more details would be made available.

“I regret to confirm that an attack on the PMF Camp occurred in the early hours of today (Saturday). I will provide more accurate and detailed information shortly,” she stated.

The latest attack underscores growing concerns over persistent banditry in Kaiama axis, where communities have repeatedly come under siege in recent months. Residents have continued to raise alarm over killings and abductions carried out by armed groups demanding ransom.

Communities such as Woro and Nuku have previously suffered similar attacks, with locals lamenting what they describe as a sustained campaign of terror by unidentified gunmen.

Security analysts say the incident highlights the urgent need for intensified security operations in the area to restore confidence among residents and curb further attacks.
