The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has destroyed illegal structures encroaching on its transmission line Right of Way (RoW), in some areas at Akpuoga Nike in Enugu State, as part of the ongoing efforts to protect critical power infrastructure and public safety.

In a press statement issued on Saturday night by the General Manager, public affairs of the Company, Ndidi Mbah, said, the demolition affected fences and other structures erected dangerously close to Tower 31 of the Ugwuaji–Makurdi 330kV Double Circuit Line at Akpuoga Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area, and others along the corridor of a 132kV transmission line, posing serious safety risks and obstructing maintenance access.
Aside the demolition exercise, TCN use the opportunity to carried out sensitization campaigns against illegal buildings and other structures within the transmission corridors.
The action which it said, was unavoidable, was necessitated by the need to prevent accidents, safeguard lives and property, and ensure unhindered access for linesmen during routine inspections and emergency repairs.
TCN therefore, warned the public, land developers, against the transmission lines right of ways which it said is 50m for 330kV lines (25m on each side) and 30m for 132kV transmission lines (15m on each side).
It equally urged the public to Strictly adherence to the approved safety clearances around transmission lines which remains essential for reliable power delivery and the overall safety of host communities.
