A coordinated security operation involving operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and forest guards, has led to the rescue of two kidnapped victims and the killing of two suspected bandits in a forest located between Oba Isin and Owa Onire in Isin and Ifelodun Local Government Areas of Kwara State.
The rescued victims were identified as 16-year-old Fatima Azeez and five-year-old Ibrahim Azeez, who regained their freedom after security operatives stormed the kidnappers’ hideout on Thursday.
According to a security report, the joint team engaged the armed kidnappers in a gun battle during the operation, resulting in the death of two suspects, while others reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries.
The report stated that the operation also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a single-barrel gun, a fully loaded magazine containing nine rounds of ammunition, a mini solar panel and food supplies believed to have been used by the fleeing criminals.
Authorities said the operation formed part of ongoing multi-agency counterterrorism and anti-kidnapping efforts aimed at dismantling criminal camps and improving security across Kwara State.
Security officials reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining joint operations against kidnappers and other criminal elements, urging residents to continue providing credible intelligence that would assist security agencies in tracking down fleeing suspects and preventing further attacks.
