•As Alumni seeks support to erect recreational facility

As part of efforts to create more opportunities for student development, Kogi State Polytechnic Alumni has solicited the support of Kogi State Government for the Sports Complex on the campus.
Also, the Alumni has planned to embark on the construction of it’s complex within the school campus.
The National President of the Association, Mr Alex Ocholi, made the call at the Second General Meeting/ Award Dinner of Kogi State Polytechnic Alumni held in Lokoja recently.
According to him, this project when completed, would not only enhance campus life, but also reenforce the Alumni’s commitment towards community development and student engagement.
He disclosed that the Alumni was formed in 2015 with a mission to enhance the polytechnic’s reputation and fostering a robust network amongst it’s members and the management and personnel of the school.
Ocholi equally stressed that ” Our primary objectives includes strengthening Alumni relationship, supporting one another professionally as well as providing avenues for collaboration that would benefit individual members and the polytechnic in general.
The National President further pointed out that the Alumni since inception has made remarkable strides towards achieving it’s set goals. Just as he added that, “We are committed towards upholding the values instilled in us by our Alma mater, building a legacy of unity, service and excellence for generations to come”.
He listed some of the achievements recorded since inception to include, erection and donation of stone sign board to the school, construction of a car park for the institution’s principal officers, renovation and equipping of designated building by the school for the Alumni’s use, donation of mini buses to the institution among others.
Speaking at the event, the Rector of the polytechnic and one of the awardees, Prof Salisu Ogbo expressed delight that the Alumni came into existence during his time as Rector. Just as he added that the Alumni has done so much for the development of the school and has also become part of the success story of his administration.
Prof Ogbo asserted that the Kogi State Polytechnic under his watch, has recorded tremendous success despite the limited resources available stressing that, apart from the infrastructural development, over 30 courses got accredited.
He also disclosed that several departments and faculties were also established.
Prof Ogbo stated that his major assignment is to make the polytechnic one of the best in the country while calling for the collaboration of relevant stakeholders in achieving the set goals.
He used the occasion to appreciate the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for finding him worthi of the huge assignment and promised he would have no excuse for failing.
Speaking on the breif history of the Alumni, the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Honourable Abereoran Olusegun disclosed that the association which started in 2015 with a WhatsApp group, achieved a significant milestone with its registration with Kogi State Government in 2017.
He further added that the Alumni was formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission as an incorporated trusteeship with Alhaji Gambo Haruna as Board Chairman and current Speaker Kogi State Polytechnic, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf as member.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of awards four of it’s members who have distinguished themselves in their various fields of endeavour.
They include: Kogi State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress,(APC), Dr. Abdullahi Bello, Speaker Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable, Umar Yusuf, first female Accountant General of Kogi State, Dr Habibat Onumoko and Prof Salisu Ogbo, Rector Kogi State Polytechnic.
