A former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Idi Hong, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa state.
According to him, staying in the party is no longer the best interest.
Hong stated this when he was formally received into the APC at the party’s secretariat in Yola, where a large crowd of supporters and party faithful gathered to welcome him.
The former minister said his decision to leave the PDP followed extensive consultations with members of his political structure and loyalists.
Addressing supporters, Hong stated that remaining in the PDP was no longer in the best interest of his followers or their collective political aspirations. He described his move to the APC as a return “back home,” adding that he was warmly received by the party leadership and members.
“The move is guided by a desire to advance development in the state and the country,” he said, expressing confidence that the APC offers a more viable platform to achieve his political goals. He pledged to deploy his experience and ideas to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
Hong also directed members of his political network to resign from the PDP and fully align with the APC, assuring them of his readiness to work toward the party’s victory in the 2027 general elections.
Welcoming the former minister, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, Idris Shuaibu, represented by Hassan Babuto, assured him of equal rights and opportunities within the APC.
Similarly, Aliyu Ahmed, APC Chairman in Hong Local Government Area, pledged the party’s support for Hong in any capacity he chooses to serve.
He described the APC as a peaceful and progressive platform committed to inclusive participation, noting that Hong had formally registered in Shangui Ward of Hong LGA.
Ahmed, however, cautioned against any attempt to impose leadership on the party in the state. He reaffirmed that Malam Nuhu Ribadu, remains the recognized leader of the APC in Adamawa and warned that party members would resist any external interference in its leadership structure.
