From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Kwara State Police Command, has dismissed as false and misleading a viral report circulating on social media claiming that a female police officer serving in the state was kidnapped and murdered.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command described the report as baseless and intended to cause panic among residents.

“The attention of the Kwara State Police Command has been drawn to news circulating on social media alleging the kidnap and murder of a female police officer in the state. This claim is entirely false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary fear among citizens,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated.

She emphasised that there has been no report of any missing or abducted female officer in any division across the state, adding that there is no police division named ‘Ogidi Division’ as mentioned in the false report.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that no such incident occurred in Kwara State. There is no record of any missing policewoman, and there is no Ogidi Police Division within the state. Members of the public are advised to disregard this misinformation,” the statement read.

SP Ejire-Adeyemi warned that spreading unverified information could damage reputations and destabilise public peace.

She urged residents and media outlets to verify any information from credible sources before dissemination.

She assured the public that under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property, preventing crime, and maintaining peace across the state.

“For accurate updates and verified information, residents are encouraged to follow the Command’s official handles on X @kwara_ppro, on Facebook at Kwara State Police Command, and on WhatsApp Channel via Kwara State Police Command,” she added.

The Command reiterated its commitment to transparency and pledged to keep the public informed of any developments when necessary.
