Planned protest: NASS summons emergency session

Amid the planned hardship protest slated for Thursday August 1st, the leadership of the National Assembly has summoned for an emergency session to hold today July 31, 2024 to discuss the way forward.

President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on Monday summoned an emergency session of the upper legislative chambers ahead of the nationwide protest.

According to an internal memorandum from the Senate Clerk, the Senate emergency session is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 31 July, 2024.

“Dear Distinguished Senators, the President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, has directed that an emergency plenary sitting of the Senate be convened Wednesday, July 31st, 2023, 12 noon.

“Distinguished Senators are requested to make all necessary arrangements to attend as issues of national importance will be discussed.

“We regret all inconveniences that this interruption of the recess will cause. Thanks for your usual understanding”, it read.

Recall that last week, the Senate and House of Reps on July 23, 2024, embarked on the recess which will end on September 17, 2024.
